How online schooling works F.A.Qs

Is Oppimista classed as homeschooling?

Oppimista is an online independent school that follows the internationally recognised American curriculum, with qualified teachers delivering live, interactive lessons.

Parents or guardians can home school and take full responsibility for their child'’s education, including selecting and delivering the curriculum. Oppimista provides a structured school environment online, with set timetables, formal assessments, and teacher-led instruction - just like a traditional school, but in a digital setting.

Home-educating families can use our school to support their teaching. For example, parents may choose Oppimista for subjects they're less confident teaching or to help their child prepare for exams. Our flexible approach, including 24/7 access to recorded lessons, allows homeschooling families to fit learning around their schedule while benefiting from expert teaching and a structured curriculum.

Do you offer 1-1 classes?

At Oppimista, we offer live lessons where all children can attend. These lessons are recorded and can be viewed at any time to fit around the lives of our learners. Small group and individual support is available to ensure personalised support.

Do students need to wear a school uniform?

We do not have a uniform policy at Oppimista. However, it is important students dress in a manner that is respectful and appropriate for school. We have an online shop opening soon where students and families willl be able to purchase a variety of school products and uniform, building the Oppimista family.

Do students need to be on camera?

We understand that every student is different. Some students thrive with more interaction, while others prefer a quieter, less distracting environment. We’re committed to providing a personalised learning experience that works for each child.

To offer flexibility, we allow parents to choose the level of interaction that suits their child’s needs. We’ll continue to work closely with families to ensure every student feels engaged and supported.

Can we see a sample lesson?

We offer taster sessions throughout the year, so you can get a feel for lessons suited to your child’s age group. Be sure to check our news page for details on any upcoming sessions.

Are lessons compulsory?

We are proud to support all students with a need for flexibility whether online learning or home learning. If students do miss a class, they’re free to catch up with 24/7 access to lesson recordings. We'll keep in touch and ensure that you're always fully supported as much, or little, in whatever suits your family lifestyle.

Will my child be able to contact their teacher? How long will they take to respond?

At Oppimista, we're a school family -  students can email their class teacher or Senior Leader of Learning at any time. Teachers will reply according to their schedule and the urgency of the enquiry.  You'll always be fully supported.

Can my child study subjects across year groups?

Yes, it is possible to study different subjects across different year groups. However, timetables may clash. If lesson clashes do occur, students can use lesson recordings to catch up.

My child may not always be able to attend timetabled lessons. How will they catch up?

Oppimista offers a fully flexible approach to learning, so your child never has to miss out on any class.

All classes are recorded and uploaded for viewing at any time, 24/7. If learners miss a class, they’re free to watch the lesson recording at any time. Students can also email their teachers directly for additional guidance if needed. Our brilliant teachers are always happy to help.

Can my child continue at regular school?

Some families may wish to continue at a regular school, full or part-time, and use Oppimista to support their learning. Oppimista offers a world-class curriculum, resources and links to support education, well-being and personal growth.

How do you assess progress and how do you know if a child is struggling?

Students take  assessments, giving teachers a clear picture of each student’s potential in high-stakes exams. Teachers also regularly use formative assessments - like weekly quizzes - to keep track of progress. We also incorporate a dynamic blend of summative and formative checkpoints, tailored to each phase, ensuring that assessments are timely and relevant. Teachers use assignments at the end of every topic to dive deeper into understanding and gauge how well students have grasped the material.

This approach to assessment is designed to track progress in a way that’s both efficient and supportive, striking the right balance between challenge and support without overwhelming students. If a student falls behind or excels, teachers can quickly adjust the content to keep them on the right path, ensuring every learner gets the attention they need to thrive.

How can parents interact with teachers?

Parents and guardians can contact teachers at any time throughout the academic year. All of your child’s teachers’ email addresses can be found on your Parent Hub dashboard.
